Promoting the Practice of Asking Questions

This Thursday evening’s #NGSSChat centered around Practice #1 from the NGSS Science and Engineering Practices dimension: “Asking Questions and Defining Problems.” Many of my colleagues shared some important thoughts, ideas, and suggestions that we all need to be kept mindful of as we prepare ourselves to practice more science in our classrooms.

When considering why is it so important to practice asking questions with students?

When it comes to promoting questions, how do we go from good to great?

I added the importance of making sure students understood that asking good questions is important. Often we send the wrong message with what we assess…

And quite possibly the most important reminder: I don’t know is ok!

A special thanks to Fred Ende and Tricia Shelton who moderate #NGSSChat periodically on Thursday evenings at 9PM Eastern Time. Hope you wil join us next time!
